There is a heat advisory issued for our region this week, in addition to today being the first day of school for MDUSD.

Per AYSO guidelines, we don’t cancel practices or games for heat as a league. As always, it is at your discretion whether to cancel a practice due to conditions. We recommend that coaches modify sessions – more frequent and longer water breaks, less intensive drills, ice packs, cooling towels, fans, sprays, shade during rest periods (although there is some shade at many fields, it’s a good idea to bring a pop-up if someone on the team has one).

Unless a child has underlying conditions, it’s considered safe to be active for short periods if guidelines for modifying the sessions are followed. Of course, parents know their child best and can always choose not to attend a practice or game.
